Research Information Technology
Research information technology (IT) is part of the broader Pediatric Health Information Technology Institute (the Bear Institute) at Children’s National Hospital. In addition, Research IT represents a significant component of the Clinical Translational Science Institute and the Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) grant award. The CTSA's ongoing projects include a clinical data warehouse, automated clinical trials recruitment and I2B2 data discovery environment. The team manages a dedicated IT infrastructure to support Children's National Research Institute including a 10GB network backbone, security firewalls, storage and server computing capacity. In addition, Research IT manages Linux high-performance computing clusters to support various data analytical applications. The infrastructure is highly virtualized to save energy and meet growth demands. Current service capacities include but are not limited to the following:
- Remote access
- User identity and access management
- Linux systems
- Clustering and high-throughput computing
- Database management
- Website hosting
- Virtual desktops and servers
- Data backup and restore
- Data archiving
