About the Lab

Many children with congenital heart disease, particularly the most complex anomalies, suffer from important behavioral anomalies and neurodevelopmental delay after surgical correction of their anomaly. Our research activities focus on studying how congenital heart disease and subsequent cardiac surgery affect the rapidly developing brain in fetal, neonatal and infant populations. We have successfully utilized sophisticated and cutting-edge neuroscience approaches in several clinically relevant experimental models of injury. The long-term goal of our research program is to optimize treatment strategy and develop new approaches that will reduce neurodevelopmental impairment in children with congenital heart disease.
