About the Lab

Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. It disproportionately affects children of African American and Hispanic ancestry. The Pediatric Asthma Clinical and Translational Research Program at Children’s National Research Institute located in the Rastogi Lab is investigating the mechanisms that underlie asthma development and severity in minority children. Obesity, which has quadrupled in children over the past three decades, is one of the medical conditions that is associated with asthma development and severity. Since obesity-related asthma is recognized to be a form of nonallergic asthma that is poorly responsive to currently available asthma medications, the lab is focused on finding the mechanisms by which obesity is associated with asthma burden in minority children with the goal of identifying molecules for development of new therapies.
