Beata Jablonska, Ph.D., is broadly interested in research related to translational neuroscience, with a focus on the relationship between brain development and disease. Using a mouse model of hypoxia, which recapitulates many morphological and histological changes found in prematurely born infants, she investigates cellular and molecular changes in oligodendrocyte development in normal and hypoxic white matter. She demonstrated that neonatal brain injury causes transient hypomyelination of subcortical white matter due to reduced oligodendrocyte differentiation and elevated regenerative response of progenitor cells. She is investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes.
