Mihailo Kaplarevic, Ph.D., is the Chief Research Information Officer at Children’s National and the Bioinformatics Division Chief at Children’s National Research Institute. Dr. Kaplarevic also holds the Associate Research Professorship in the Department of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering and Parallel Computation Systems from the University of Delaware, where he later served as the Research Associate Professor and the Bioinformatics Associate Scientist.
Dr. Kaplarevic has broad expertise in enterprise architecture design and management, data management, system performance analysis, informational technology management and data and systems security. During his time with the federal government, he frequently participated in National Institutes of Health governing committees concerning strategic planning, science administration and enterprise architecture development.
Dr. Kaplarevic’s experience covers diverse topics in clinical informatics and biomedical engineering such as large-scale relational, non-relational and object-oriented databases; applied algorithms and applications; data mining and analysis; high-performance computing; large-scale data storage and mining, cloud computing, high-performance cluster computing; and cross platform migration. He has scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of bioinformatics, cross-platform optimizations and parallel computer architectures.
