The Mito-EpiGen Program

The Mitochondria-Epigenetics and Genetics Program (Mito-EpiGen) is a multidisciplinary research program based at George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences in partnership with Children’s National Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. Mito-EpiGen is dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric inherited mitochondrial diseases. These mitochondrial diseases are due to mutations in the nuclear or mitochondrial genome affecting the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system responsible for ATP synthesis. 

Our team is dedicated to mitochondrial research through the three following aims:

• Mitochondrial homeostasis in differentiating neurons
• Translational research on rare and inherited mitochondrial diseases, such as MELAS and LHON-Plus
• Small molecule and epigenetic-based therapeutic approaches

UDN/Undiagnosed Disease Network

The Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) is a research study that is funded by the National Institutes of Health Common Fund. Its purpose is to bring together clinical and research experts from across the United States to solve the most challenging medical mysteries using advanced technologies.
