Our Research
MRI-Compatible Robotics
The team has developed several magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-compatible robots to enable in-bore interventions under MRI. The goal of these projects is to enable precision targeting of the anatomy within the MRI scanner room for minimally invasive interventions in the shoulder, back and legs. The work is funded by several National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 grants and includes collaborators from Johns Hopkins University, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the University of Arkansas and George Washington University.
Rehabilitation Robotics
The goal of this project is to develop a robotic device to help patients with cerebral palsy improve their ability to ambulate. The project is now in the clinical trial stage with both laboratory and home-based versions of the ankle robot available. The patient puts their foot into a three-degree of freedom robotic device which serves as a joystick for an airplane-based video game.
App Development
The team has created numerous mobile apps over the past several years using the cross-platform technology Xamarin. The apps include a sports trainer app for high school trainers, an epilepsy tracking app for adult patients and an information-providing app for genetics counselors.
