We are always looking to recruit talented students and research fellows to join our laboratory and collaborative muscle research team at Children’s National Hospital.

High School and Undergraduate Muscle Research Internship Program

The Undergraduate Research Internship Program provides students with the skills necessary to enhance their research careers. Students can earn academic credit through our internship program based on approval by their academic institution.

Our internship program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to:

  • Develop a mentored research project investigating muscle disease and therapeutic approaches in a translational and collaborative research environment
  • Gain valuable experience in laboratory research techniques, project development and data analysis
  • Attend invited lectures and weekly seminars by department investigators on cutting-edge research
  • Improve presentation, writing and communication skills

  • Duration: Minimum 1 semester required, 2+ semesters preferred

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Muscle Research

Children’s National’s Center for Genetic Medicine Research and the Children’s National Research Institute in Washington, D.C., seeks highly motivated and qualified postdoctoral fellows to join our muscle research team.

The candidates will receive rigorous postdoctoral research training in laboratory research by a multidisciplinary group of training faculties. The program will provide the trainees integrated didactic and mentored research training in basic principles and techniques of muscle and translational research. In addition to the research experience, the trainees will have access to state-of-the-art technologies in genetics, proteomics, and advanced microscopy approaches for studying muscle biology and muscle diseases.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The trainees must have received, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. Applications are encouraged from trainees within two years of receiving the doctoral degree.

Review Criteria

  • Demonstrated interest in research as well as a productive and independent research career
  • Quality of the applicants past training, including track record of research accomplishments and publications
  • Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Interested candidates must submit a CV or Biosketch, as well as a personal statement detailing your research interests, current scientific accomplishments and future career goals
